Setting up Echolink on the BBB or RPi2/3 Echolink is ready to use in both the BBB and Rpi2 images. Setup is easy, just edit the Echolink config file in /etc/asterisk with your settings. In the stock image the file is named 'echolink.xxx' and is located in the /etc/asterisk directory. IRLP FAQ Page. By Michael Illingby VE7TFD and David Cameron VE7LTD last updated January 18, 2006. I've gone wireless, but also because the way our house is built I will use an ethernet connection. Apparently my ISP 'upgraded' a mapping protocol about the time I got this computer. Spent some time with tech support and they don't think there is anything I can do.
I've configured all the ports, used port forwarding, added echolink.exe as an acceptable program, but nothing seems to work. I even connected using an old computer running windows 7 without McAfee (only added that with this computer, had been using AVG before) but it would not work either. I had previously used that old computer for Echolink. Really wanted to work the World Scout Jamboree, but have only heard them on HF once but guess I'm going to miss them.
Yes, the proxies are good. If you have a smartphone, I believe it uses your data connection and a proxy. I find I can get into Echolink with my iPhone from just about anywhere.
I have to do kidney dialysis three times a week, and I can do Echolink from inside the clinic. I was doing that a week or so ago, talking to a ham in the Twin Cities as he was mobiling along. Suddenly, he asked if I could call 911.
Apparently, someone had lost a gas can in the middle of the freeway. I called it in, and they transferred me to the highway patrol office in Minneapolis, who took the call. Pretty good for nearly 100 miles away.
